Carlton Celebrates Women: Graciela’s Story & Advice for Future Leaders
In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re proud to highlight Graciela Paz, Director of First Impressions at Carlton Senior Living Orangevale. Graciela started her journey at Carlton in July 2021, bringing with her four years of experience in fast-food restaurants. Despite being new to senior living, Graciela says, “I was ready to try new things and ready to grow.”
As Director of First Impressions, Graciela interacts with residents, families, and staff daily.
“One of my favorite things to do is assist residents and families with their questions and solve problems,” says Graciela. She has formed close relationships with many residents and loves listening to their stories. Graciela’s enthusiasm for her work is evident in the care and attention she gives to everyone she interacts with.
Working in senior living has had a profound impact on Graciela’s life.
She considers the residents and staff at Carlton to be her second family, and she loves knowing that she is making a difference in their lives. Graciela encourages others to consider a career in senior living, emphasizing the importance of being understanding, patient, caring, and loving what you do.
Graciela’s inspiration comes from her mother, who has always been a strong role model in her life.
“My mom was the oldest of her four siblings. She had to take on the role as a ‘second mom’ at 14 while my grandma was out of the country working.” Her mother’s resilience and determination in the face of adversity have taught Graciela never to give up, to always work hard, and to remain humble. “My mom also raised my sister and me while my dad worked long, hard hours while traveling around the world for his job,” says Graciela. “My mom has been through so much mentally and physically and still had a smile on her face through it all. She’s given us so much love, taught me so many things, and gives the best advice. She’s also a fighter, beating stage 3 breast cancer.”
“There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.”
Graciela is proud that she has won two awards since beginning with Carlton, including “Employee of the Month” at Carlton Senior Living Orangevale and, most recently, “Best of the Best” for her role as Director of First Impressions. Her accomplishments remind her that hard work pays off, and she encourages others to keep trying and never give up. Graciela advises future female leaders to fight for what they believe in and never be afraid to speak their minds. She believes that we are all equal and that every voice matters. During Women’s History Month, Graciela shares the words of Michelle Obama, “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.”
